Other musicians! I was wondering if anyone else on this forum shared my profession. We have our piano in the living room. In fact, it is the first thing you see coming in the front door. I tried to talk my husband into putting it in the dining room, but he nixed the idea (he's the pianist). My instruments are safely contained in our back bedroom, which serves as my office/practice area.

Incidentally, our living room, which is 27x12, was originally divided. The ghost lines of the previous divide are quite evident in the ceiling, and the decorative double band of walnut running around the floor's perimeter matches the outline in the ceiling (meaning it stops at the same point the divider would have started). I'm assuming the smaller room would have been a music room? The ghost lines suggest a colonnade of some type, as there is a beam shape spanning the ceiling with two oval patches about a foot from either wall. However, I don't think I've seen any colonnades where the columns go all the way to the ceiling. Any thoughts?

I'm considering trying to recreate the division, but hubby won't hear of it-yet. It would create a major dilemma about how to organize the rooms with the new wall in place!

I am primarily a banjo player (I play 5 string in a clawhammer style, and tenor) In our band, and as a soloist I also play: guitar, mandolin, autoharp, fiddle, lap dulcimer, ukulele, button accordion, jaw harp, spoons...
The original pictures of our new house show the grand piano in the living room, the mother had a set of shelves built into the living room coat closet to accomodate the daughter's sheet music. The grand is currently in the library, but will be moved out tomorrow as it sold at the estate sale last week.
We just dropped our CD price to $10.00 plus mailing costs. We got good reviews on it, it's fun family stuff.

I replied to the other post about my instruments, let me say that it will be interesting to see how the new house's music room works, as there is no easy walkway from the drive to the front door, which is nearest to the music room. Proximity has been a major issue of mine since I often take 6+ instruments to a gig, as well as sound equipment, CD's etc. In our current house the front door is easily reached from the drive. There are days I wished I'd stuck with harmonica.

Tell me about it! I often am carrying a bassoon and a contrabassoon, and getting through the kitchen to the backdoor is always a challenge. When I picked an insturment to play I never considered the size of the case...

Have you ever heard of the Fiddler's Convention in Athens, AL? It is also known as the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddler's Convention (full name), and has several categories of competitions. I work at Athens State University (where it is held, and founded in 1822).
