Hi: I just posted some new pics of our recent renovations and decorating. These show our new kitchen with the dropped ceiling torn out and new period lighting, and our dining room with new paint job, faux wood trim (paint), and new dining set. We decided to go with a new mission style set, since it was purchased for us as a gift. I am happy with it -- it is a very heavy set with a trestle table and some inlay design on the top.

Sedonia

sipes' bungalow
http://mypage.siu.edu/ssipes/bungalowpics.html

great pics...love your house and am really impressed by all the work you put into it. my favorite is your porch...love the brick!!! also, what are the dimensions of your dining room rug. we have a similar mission style table but i'm afraid that we'll need a 10'x15' rug to accomodate the table length...very expensive!

again, thanks for sharing your home.

It is ~8 ft by ~11 ft. Can't remember the exact odd dimensions. It came from Lowes, and was under $300. The hind legs of the chairs come off the rug a little bit sometimes when we are sitting in them, but I think the rug size is fine. Any larger and it would cover up too much of my wood floor!

I have to concur about the ebay rugs. They have great deals and I have only had positive experiences.

Have you tried Ebay for your rugs? I just won three orientals for a fraction of what they'd cost retail. From the feedback from thousands, supposedly these are beautiful rugs. Also, how long is your table? Your rug only needs to be as long and wide to fit your chairs when they are pulled out for seating. I have a 7 foot long table and a 7 x 10 rug is more than adequate.

Your home is lovely! And that popover color is wonderful so I'll be heading out to Lowe's this evening for some color swatches!

Sedonia, we have the same lamp as you (the one on top of your bookcase colonnade). I know just where you got it! ;-)

Your house is beautiful and I am hugely envious of all your built-ins. I think the colonnade is particularly great. We have a 7-foot wide opening between our dining room and kitchen which is certainly an expansion of an earlier, more modest doorway, and sometimes we think about having a cabinetmaker turn it into a colonnade JUST like yours. But it will probably have to wait until we win the lottery!

>Hi: I just posted some new pics of our recent renovations and decorating. Great pictures! I especially love the plate rail in the kitchen...how tall are your ceilings? I would eventually like to do something like that. My ceilings are 9'...oh, but I think the kitchen is about 6" shorter...where there are upstairs dormers, the ceilings are about 6" shorter downstairs.
Sedonia: I'd love to know what colors you used in your LR/DR. It is so pretty. You must have so much energy!! Everything looks great!

I used Sherwin Williams Hubbard Squash in our dining room below the plate rail, and although bold, I do love it. One day I'll get brave enough to share my photos, too.
Thanks Joyce. I will have to check for sure tonight. The upper lighter gold/green in the dining room is called "popover" and I am pretty sure it is Valspar American Traditions -- it was from Lowes. The living room is totally done in popover also. Popover is a really cool bungalow color -- I would highly recommend it. It looks very golden beige on the paint chip but on the walls and in certain light it looks much greener. The darker green in the dining may also be Valspar but I'm not sure. It was called mossy vineyards or something like that. The brown stripe was just chosen to match the woodwork as close as possible. The stripe wasn't really all that hard- we just used that blue painters tape.

Well, we did the painting ourselves and the demolition of the dropped ceiling, but most of the other work (sheetrocking, wiring etc) we hired others to do. Painting is one of the few DIY things we can do well. Also we bought a power paint roller when we moved in to this house and it has been worth every penny.

The funny thing about the dining room -- we originally painted it red. And we chose poorly with respect to the red paint. It was so, so primary red. Standing in the room with your eyes closed the red still permeated into your body. So yes, by the time I painted 3/4's of the room blazing red, decided it wasn't going to work, then covered all the red up with green, it was a big chore.

The kitchen is SW Hubbard Squash. I love that color! I'd love to see your dining room in Hubbard squash.

I really like the paint in the dining room. The kitchen looks great, too.
