I'm still trying to determine the history of my brick house. I believe in was built in 1926, since that's the date cast in to the coal shoot door. The house has a large, poured wall basement and there are 5 steel I beams supported by 3 large steel posts. The beams are marked B S Co Lackawanna, which stands for Bethleham Steel. Bethleham Steel bought out Lackawanna in 1922 so that would make the date of my house probably correct.
Is this normal construction for a Craftsmans home? The original owner (Muarice Clark Miller) was a doctor and it's been said that his father (or maybe grandfather) built the house for him. The house is located near Bay City Mi. and there was a lumber mill owend by Albert Miller in the late 1800s. I suspected that it may have been a kit home since Bay City had many companies that offered them, but haven't found any evidence of it.
Another feature that seemed unique was that it originally had a cistern in the basement.
I'm really new at this so I hope I'm not just rambling here, I'm just trying to find the history of this great old house.
